Workforce Development in action
Addington Lifestyle Care
Addington Lifestyle Care, which is part of the Oceania Group, provides rest home, hospital and specialist dementia care to its residents. Staff at the aged care facility include registered nurses, enrolled nurses, caregivers and support staff.
Recently, Pam Harris from the Workforce Development team at Ara worked with Addington Lifestyle Care's clinical manager Ailish Guthrie to promote professional development opportunities to staff.
"Pam visited our facility and discussed opportunities for our staff to further their learning and development in their current field," says Ailish. "She was friendly and helpful, and she was able to answer all the questions staff had."
Since Pam's visit, five staff have enrolled in the Level 3 New Zealand Health and Wellbeing programme at Ara.
Many of the facility's staff are registered nurses from overseas who are working as healthcare assistants, so the visit was a good opportunity to talk about the English language programmes available at Ara. Ailish says this motivated several staff to look into the language development options on offer.
"Overall, our experience in dealing with Pam was very beneficial and has raised awareness among our team about the opportunities that are available to them at Ara."
