Ara Events Management students outdid expectations at Holi, the festival of colour in Christchurch, last weekend.
“The entire class turned up on time at 7.30am, and some of them were still here through to the very end helping to clean up,” event organiser Hitesh Sharma said. “Having these 15 capable volunteer workers join the team for the day was amazing. They needed minimal supervision and guidance and I was impressed at their initiative and willingness to work hard.”
Hitesh is a graduate of the Ara Graduate Diploma in Events Management qualification and was approached by the students in the week before the festival.
With 6,000 people coming through the gates to throw coloured powder at each other and enjoy the varied entertainment and traditional Indian games, the festival was a rich experience for the students. The qualification is designed to graduate work ready students who have the skills and the experience to hit the ground, or the event, running.
