A large crowd came together at the Ara City Campus to celebrate the achievements of the Ara Youth Guarantee students. It’s the highlight for 134 students completing their six months Youth Guarantee course.
Manager Student Support Diana Law welcomed the students and their families and friends. She praised the persistence and determination of the students. “Your attitude is what helped you succeed, so continue to choose to be successful and to make the most of the opportunities that come your way,” Diana Law said.
A few students from different courses spoke about their experiences and how the Youth Guarantee scheme had opened new options for them.
“My course was fulfilling and worthwhile because of the many things we have done, from classroom studies to joinery to painting. Unlike high school I found it easy to be on time, as I really enjoyed the course,” said Level 2 Construction student Tyler Stevenson, who received an Outstanding Achievement award.
Many friends and family came to celebrate the Youth Guarantee students.
27 students received awards for their outstanding achievements. Hadassah Topp studied the Level 2 Certificate in Foundation Studies Level 2, Health and Social Services. She received the Excellence Award, but it was a big step for her to start studying.
“I was home schooled and it was quite daunting to come into a school environment. In the end it was great to have the opportunity to further my studies and to go towards my dream of becoming a paramedic.”
Certificate in Retail student Danielle Ellis enjoyed making friends and gaining knowledge, but she couldn’t have succeeded without her tutors she said.
“I really enjoyed having the opportunity to learn from a variety of tutors with different teaching styles. I suffer from anxiety and every day is a challenge for me to come to class. If it wasn’t for my amazing tutors helping me through this, I most likely would have given up like I’ve done in the past. I want to thank them for being there for me.”
