Jazz Guitarist Brad Kang has moved back home to Christchurch after a spell in the United States studying jazz guitar at the prestigious University of North Texas.
During his time there, Kang was a part of the world- renowned One O’Clock Lab Band. The album ‘Lab 2015’, which Kang was a part of as a composer and player, received a Grammy nomination for one of the tracks ‘Neil’.
Since his arrival in Christchurch, he's been an active part of the local and national jazz scene, performing at various festivals around New Zealand. His performance at the Wellington Jazz Festival 2017 was awarded the Best of Fest People's Choice Award.
He is part of the faculty at The Ara Institute of Canterbury. He has performed with Bobby McFerrin, Arturo Sandoval, Doc Severinson, Mike LeDonne, Wycliffe Gordon, Mike Clark, James Morrison and Adam Larson. Brad hasbeen featured on albums by Nolan Byrd, Perrin Grace, Sergio Pamies, AMP Trio, Sky Window, One O'Clock Lab Band and the Two O'Clock Lab Band.
The concert will feature the continuation of his explorations of the guitar trio, a format he has grown to love and developed since his return to Christchurch. The concert will feature new original compositions and personal renditions of some his favourite jazz standards.
